September 2005

Where has this month gone? It seems like it has just started and now we are at the close of August. Another month gone and we still have no decision on the building in Ferma Larga. The commission has approved the sale of the building; however, we now await the final decision from the judge. We really need the judge to make her decision on the property before winter sets in or we will not be able to do anything on the building. We need get the windows boarded up and the inside cleaned of the mounds of debris. Besides, my intention was to utilize the team in December and have a 2-day teaching session in Ferma Larga with the adults. So in order to do this, I need the building finalized. Please pray with us regarding this purchase.

Copiii Regelui 2005: (Children of the King) Volunteer Lyn Dennis

Our summer program is fast coming to a close, but it has been an extraordinary year. This year’s theme, “Exploring the Names of Jesus”, really produced a lot of unexpected results. Week after week there were noticeable changes in many of the children, greater maturity and more responsibility and increase in the children’s accountability. Approximately 35 children from Ferma Larga and Ferma Cojocna attended each week and earned their Names of Jesus badges. This is the first year that the children have earned badges and it is evident that the badges were a great success. Even more importantly the badges will continue to remind the children of the twelve names of Jesus that we studied this summer and that when they call on His Name they call on His character, the character of the Name, to hear their prayers. Participation by non-team members in this year’s program was way up this year, and participation was not limited to just attending and observing, but rather actual participation - teaching, drama, activities, puppets, preaching.

All of the programs except three have experienced the summer showers of blessings that roll through Ferma Larga each year. As you probably have seen on the news, Romania has had catastrophic floods this year from north to south. Personally, I have never seen such large amounts of rain, day after day. However, despite the weather, the children’s program went on as promised. Sometimes we had to fast forward the program, leave out some games, or finish a lesson under a tree. Last week the children ran inside the building that Calea Adevarului (Freddy and Rita) is trying to purchase to get out of the rain, and then back outside again, and then back in again. Materials and equipment had to be repeatedly covered up and uncovered, object lessons shoved into boxes and then dug out again to continue the program. God is gracious though and except for a few “showers of blessings” there were few hitches in the program schedule this summer.

God’s provision for this year’s program has been awesome. We have been blessed with enough candy from teams last December and this spring to supply the whole summer. Manna Ministries’ boxes have furnished many of the school supplies that we will give each child on Sept. 2nd. And last but not least has been the increase in funding for Copiii Regelui this year. For the first time in the seven years that the program has been operating in Romania no personal funds had to be expended for this year’s program. All Xeroxing, lamination, and materials along with even the hot dogs, cookies, and chips at our end of season picnic was paid for entirely by supporters. Yes, praise God! Jehovah Jireh, the Lord God Our Provider, was definitely visible in 2005.

Our thanks goes out to each of you who have made this summer the success it has been. We have seen young trouble-makers become program stars, timid children step forward to pray and recite memory verses, and shy team members blossom and become daring in their presentations, while program personnel fight back tears when God begins to work. Copiii Regelui is all about children. Our commission is to “train them in the way they should go, so that when they become older, they will not depart it.” Our mission is to be used as instruments to help raise up young men and women, boys and girls, to become part of a greater works generation, a generation focused on Jesus. Again, thank you for all you do. And of course, the children’s program wishes to express its appreciation to Calea Adevarului for their tireless efforts to assist and promote the Copiii Regelui program, to stand in the rain and coordinate the behind the scenes action, and to transport a bus load of kids in the nice, new Calea van week after week. Thank you all, and may God richly bless you.

Barbara, Alex and Sarah Update: (Volunteer Barbara Caver)

Another kindergarten year is about to begin here in Zalau. I had prayed that Alexandra, Sarah, and I would be back in the States by now. Although this has not been the case, there is some progress in the situation. I was recently informed that, because I am a foreigner actually living in Romania, I could apply early for “permanent residency” status (not citizenship). This process takes about three months. Once I am granted permanent residence, I can adopt the girls nationally. I would prefer an international adoption, but this is my ONLY option now. And I am very thankful that God has given me this option! After four and a half years there is finally a ray of hope! Please pray that the permanent residency status will be granted quickly. Also pray that there will not be any complications when the birth parents have to appear in court to once again waive their parental rights. Also, pray that I will have all the paperwork necessary to get the girls to the United States once the adoption has gone through the Romanian court system. Thank you all for your continued prayer support and encouragement.

Thanks to you all:

We thank you for being willing to stand in the gap on behalf of the land of Romania. Ezekiel 22:30, speaks of God looking for a man who would build up the wall and stand in the gap. I thank God that through your financial gifts and prayers you have been standing in the gap with us on behalf of the land of Romania. We appreciate your commitment to God to see that others hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you so much!

Yours in Christ,

Freddy and Rita
