August 2003

Special Thanks:

First, I would like to thank all of you for your prayers, phone calls, cards and emails regarding the loss of my mother. I have always heard that one of the toughest things you can experience is the death of your mother. Indeed, it is a difficult part of life but the victory that sustains us is that she is now ever-present with Jesus. I rejoice in her gain; but still I suffer the loss of her physical presence here with me. When I lost my father I thought nothing could be worse; but, yes, this seems to take on a deeper sorrow than I ever expected. However, I have a deeper and greater joy in knowing that both my mother and father now have joined that so great a cloud of witnesses and will forever be with our LORD. Again thanks for all your support through your prayers, phone calls, cards and emails.

Building of Walls:

Our departure date of September 2 is quickly arriving, and Freddy and I are all geared up for our return to Romania. We are excited to see first-hand all the great works that God has already done this year, and we are anxious to see Him continue to work after our arrival. We are excited that God pressed our hearts that when we return we are to be prepared to build walls to partition off the humanitarian building from what is now being called the transition living quarters. This summer we felt it was wisdom to move the girls onto the foundation property to save the cost of monthly rental. The move does not mean the girls have fewer responsibilities for their living expenses. Rather, the girls are still responsible for paying rent and their own utilities. However the $100.00 a month that Calea paid in addition to their payments are no more. We are now able to give them a more reasonable housing cost based upon their income. Praise Jesus for HIS provision of the foundation property so that we can finally begin to bring together the plan that God placed into our hands.

Our first project upon our return is to erect the walls to partition off the living area for the transitioning girls, to install the radiators that will run off the new heating system installed last year, and to put electricity into that part of the house. Lyn and Corina have been working frantically getting all the estimates for the completion of this work. Off hand just the materials and labor will cost us roughly $1, 850.00 dollars and, as we have learned from the past two years of construction projects, in Romania you can always expect to add additional costs to cover higher inflation rates and rising costs of materials from the time of estimation or for the materials that were not figured in the original estimate. By faith, we believe God is our provider and are asking that you pray along with us and to be in agreement that God will call all things that are not as though they were. The Word says, “We have not because we ask not.” We do not want to be unfruitful in asking for God’s provision to accomplish that which we feel has been seeded deep within our spirit. We believe just as it is written God holds everything on earth and in heaven within the palms of His hands. His Word tells us to confidently ask God. 1 John 3: 14 –15 “We have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey HIS commands and do what pleases HIM.” (NIV) Our hearts from the very beginning have always sought to perform James 1:27 as best we can, "Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble...." Our deepest desire is to minister to others as God leads.  Over the past 5 years God has been faithful to use the ministry in Romania and now by faith again Freddy and I step out to fulfill another area in God’s purpose and plan. We covet your prayers.

Barbara’s Adoption: (Barbara Caver)

PRAISE THE LORD!!! The adoption has been APPROVED in Salaj County! There were no questions. The vote was unanimous. I walked all the way back to the apartment thanking the Lord!  I wondered if the people on the commission realized that there was someone else sitting in that room that they couldn't see!!!  There is one little detail unsettled. There seems to be a difference of opinion between Child Protection here and the American Embassy as to whether the INS pre-adoption approval document should be in the file that is sent to Bucharest.  This is an important issue.  Please be in prayer that God will give me the wisdom to know what to do.  Thank you all for your prayers.  God honored your requests once again, and we are a little closer to coming home. God bless you a thousand fold. (Written by Barbara)

Children’s Ministries: (Lyn Dennis)

Well, Copiii Regelui is in its 6th week of summer program in Ferma Larga. God is really doing a work out there. We are becoming a family not just a program. This week we were invited into the home of two of our kids and we shared “la masa” (dinner) together. The father and grandmother told tales of the “glorious” days gone by and let us know that they were not a closed community and that we were welcome to share the Gospel. We have fewer kids this year, only 24, because many have moved away so that their families could find work or a better place to live. Fewer kids, yes, but such eager minds and hungry hearts. Copiii Regelui is very blessed this year that three teenagers from a local Independent Baptist Church are helping every week, besides the regular Calea crew. God is awesome in His provision, that’s for sure!!!! Today, as we drove into Ferma Larga, there was a shepherd and hundreds of sheep headed up the hill to where we have the program. At the top of the hill we could make out some of the children sitting on an old boulder waiting for us. I stopped the van and just looked out across the field for a while – I was seeing in person something that God showed me right after I came to Romania. During prayer one day I saw a Shepherd watching as hundreds of sheep RAN up a lush green hill into a sort of rock cave. The Shepherd was excited and smiled as He peeked around a tree and watched His sheep. There right before my eyes, I was witnessing the reality of that vision. The children up there on the rock at Ferma Larga were His sheep and He was watching them as they raced back and forth excited and giddy when the van drove up the hill. Then came the Shepherd’s orders, loud and clear, “Now, feed My sheep.” “Oh, dear God, never let us again at Copiii Regelui just do a program.” We, along with hundreds of other Children’s Ministries, are responsible for the washing, the feeding and the nurturing of His little ones, for such is the Kingdom of God. The “least of the Kingdom” have been chosen to sit at the feet of the Great Shepherd. “Thank You, Lord, for the opportunity to pass Your Bread. Please pray that it won’t just be a program summer but that souls and whole families will be added to the Kingdom at Ferma Larga.

A Special Thank You:

I would like to express our thanks to Dave and Wanda of “Manna Ministries in Atlanta, Ga. for their faithfulness to quickly answer our request for humanitarian aid. During the last 2 months we have received 20 boxes of clothing and I received word from them this week that another 26 boxes have been shipped. Praise Jesus! Also, our thanks to Garry & Charm of “Harvest Time Ministries, Memphis, Tennessee for their response to last month’s newsletter regarding the need of the “Miracle House.” We also, thank Garry and Charm for their email in regards to our deep concern for this ministry. If others of you responded to that need, we thank you for your vision to help others in ministry. Thank you all for you help!

Thank all of you who are faithful with your monthly donations toward our ministry. We express to you all our gratitude for your financial support and for those of you who have partnered with us through prayer. You have been faithful supporters that have stood with us through the hardships, through the storms that tried to buffet the ministry; and you have been there through the victories as well. We are honored to be the channel of blessings for your seed gifts that go forth in ministering to the needy, to the widows, and to the orphans of Romania. You all are truly the heroes that are working to build up God’s Kingdom. Our prayers are with you all.

Yours In Christ,

Freddy and Rita
