Back to NEWSLETTER Page August 2002 Year of the Unexpected: This year has been a very unusual and unexpected one that has brought many changes to the summer outreaches. With all we have faced the last months it is hard to imagine that this year is only half over. We have experienced major opportunities, but yet find ourselves everyday pressing harder to finish the race for the cause of Jesus Christ. I have learned in ministry that you have your ups and downs. We have seen the mighty hand of God part the seas before us, so to speak, and then see more battle zones ahead with flaming fires that have to be fought through. Yet we have all the confidence that Jesus is in the fiery furnace with us and that it is HE who leads us through. Though this year has been unusual, God has taught me so much. More importantly is to witness the NAME of JESUS! Have you ever been questioned for your faith and your ministry for God? Have you ever thought or said, “If I ever am questioned about my faith in Jesus no one would make me scared enough to fail to speak boldly for my Lord?” I have often as a Christian said, “Lord, I will uphold Your Name and stand for You no matter what!” This year has been a testing of my faith! Literally! Many of you remember from a previous newsletter that I mentioned being called into the police department on 4 separate occasions and questioned intensely for hour after hour and being accused of the most bizarre things and then only to find the integration worsened when I proclaimed, “Yes, I am a Christian.” Not only has it been the police station questioning me, but also the “Children’s Protection Agency” from both Cluj and Salaj counties. Time and time again I found myself answering question after question and then was astonished to hear everywhere that one question again and again, “ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN?” I will admit sometimes I found my mind tossing back and forth “Rita, this is a ex-communist country. You never know what they will do if you say, “YES.” However, when I read my Bible I found it comforting to relate to what James states: James 1:2-4; “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” The perfect work God wants to work in us is Faith, Faith that will totally lean upon Him so that at those appointed times when in need for Godly wisdom you lack nothing. Have I learned much this year? Yes! However, I know that this has been a process of Him teaching me that I must decrease and He must increase within me.Children’s Protection Commission: To all of you who were praying for Alexandra and Andrada (Sarah) on July 25, we have news for you. I had to go before the “Commission” in Zalau concerning decision as to whether we could continue to care for these 2 babies. After being questioned earlier by them and having answered many questions concerning certain false accusations about our foundation, we felt strongly that the 2 babies would be placed in an orphanage. Prayers went up all over to the throne room of God for the decision that would be in best interests of these children and, hopefully, would allow us to continue to care for them. While I was waiting that morning for us to be called before the commission I prayed, “ God you have to show Your glory in this matter.” Knowing the hard-shell questioning from previous meetings, needless to say, I was a little on guard. However, God’s Ways are truly unknown to the human mind! When we walked into the room they had 2 chairs set up for us in full view of all present. They read all the information accumulated from months of research on their part. Yet, to my surprise the young vice-president of the “Children’s Protection” in Zalau who had previously been so cold, hard, and determined to find fault with our foundation was now telling the “Commission” positive things he had discovered we were doing as a foundation to help not only the two babies but their family as well. He told the commission about how the family, which previously lived at a dump was now living in a house that he found very clean and with a yard large enough to have a garden and fruit trees all around. While waiting patiently for him to finish, my thoughts raced in amazement to hear all the good he was stating. Knowing how hard this man had questioned me before, it was almost unbelievable what I was hearing. When he finished, the meeting was opened for questioning from any of the members. One man raised his hand to ask the first question, which was, “What religion are you?” Here again I was thinking, aha a testing of my faith. “How will you answer Rita?” I was about to say “Pentecostal” when suddenly the president of the “Commission” said, “They are Pentecostal.” Then looking at me, she asked, “Is that right?” “Yes! I responded!” Expecting more questions, I was flabbergasted when there were none. I saw right before my eyes God silencing other questions, and suddenly they were voting as to whether the babies would be left in our care. Hands went up everywhere! Praise Jesus! We serve a mighty God who still parts the sea to lead His children to safety. Ministry Outreaches:We had scheduled this year two medical teams. However, we learned late in the process of changes in the law regarding transportation of drugs from outside the country and of storage and disbursement of those drugs, once in country. Another major opportunity was ahead of us with seemingly impossible results. On July 10 – 20, Doctor Tonya of “New Frontiers” from Clearwater Florida was to be here to minister to those less fortunate who cannot afford medication. After being told over and over again that we could not host a medical team, I was at my wits end. Knowing that in less than a week this team (with tickets in hand) was to be here, how could I tell them they could not minister medically in the villages? I prayed, “God, why would you lead a team here and then not allow them to minister?” My heart was moved to press on to seek out why they would not approve us? However, 3 days before the team was to arrive I finally received a fax of the new law. The new law stated that we had to have medical personnel on staff and that approved storage area for the medicines had to be verified. They had never bothered to provide us with this information but rather just assumed we were not capable of being approved. After reading the fax I immediately got on the phone and told them we had a doctor on staff and faxed them all the doctor’s information along with the storage area specs. Nonetheless, it truly was a year of trials and testing. Bucharest, still after learning we were able to meet their requirements to host medical outreaches, would not send us any approvals. The person over that department was now going on vacation and only he could make that decision. I thought in 2 days the team is to leave America and no medical approvals. Yet, I knew that God knows best! Soon afterwards I received a call from Doctor Tonya to tell me she had to cancel the trip. What can you say? You cannot expect teams to fly 3,000 miles just to sightsee. Did my heart feel crushed? Yes! Did I feel that I had let others down? Yes! But more so, I felt heartbroken because I could see such need for medical ministry in so many families here. We canceled both medical outreaches! Yet we were still trusting that God knew what was best and that he had a plan far greater than we. His Greater Plan:::: On July 21 we received a team of young people from Mobile, Alabama. One day after the medical was scheduled to leave, they arrived. Ministry evangelism outreaches were top of the itinerary for this team. With all the hardships I had encountered over the last few months, I thought I was wearing thin. However, God began to soar within my spirit saying, “Fight with everything that is within.” My heart was pressed toward evangelism like never before. The Holy Spirit said, “Go first were satan began the attacks this year and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.” I spoke with the team about all we had been fighting against, and then I read Ephesians 6:10-20. I told them what to expect. I realized that some were new Christians and their facial expressions showed a little concern, and also knowing some had never really evangelized like this before. But immediately the team assured us that whatever was God’s itinerary, that is what they wanted to do. I found this team more than willing to enter into ministry they had not dealt with before! Wow! What a week! I saw some of these young people go from quiet and insecure in ministry to boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We at Calea had been praying, “God, we need Bibles to give away as we minister with this team” We had no money on hand to purchase more Bibles! Then amazingly, the Sunday before the team arrived the associate pastor of the church we attend came to me and told me he had some New Testament Bibles if I needed them. I shouted, “YES, Pastor I will take them.” Then I told him of my prayer and he was overwhelmed at how God had led him to share them with us. God is good all the time! He takes care of our needs and desires! We received 104 New Testaments and over 50 excerpts of Romans and John. And we gave them all away in 4 days! Souls were coming to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior everywhere this team radically proclaimed Jesus! Monday they trimmed the lamps” in Cluj by going and placing tracks in apartment buildings. Tuesday we were “Pushing back darkness” as they papered Zalau with the gospel, by praying over the city and the forthcoming “Commission” meeting that was scheduled on Thursday. Wednesday we traveled into the “highways and byways” of Samaurduc, a new village we had never ministered in before. We distributed toothpaste, soap and other hygiene products and Bibles into every home. (Around 90 homes total.) Thursday, we” fed the sheep” with a children’s program in Ferma Larga and the distribution of summer clothes for the children. Finally on Friday, we ventured into Suceag, another new village that we had learned was in great need of humanitarian aid. The team was to interview the gypsy families and assess their needs while ministering the gospel. The day was filled with more than we ever expected. We learned why God had sent us there. The teams had been divided up. I switched from team to team and the news that we were receiving was outstanding. Mike McCord commented, “Mrs. Rita, I never knew it was so easy to lead people to the Lord. You don’t have to do anything; these people are hungry for Jesus and begging you to tell them how they can ask Jesus in their lives. I never in my life experienced such!” If only you could have seen the faces of team members light up with the love of Jesus. Then I knew that despite all the hardships of the past year were well worth it all so that others could come to know the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. To the best of our knowledge, a total of 61 people came the know Jesus as Lord during that week! What an extraordinary week! Closing Prayer Need:We are in need of a new boiler for our heating system: The boiler doubles as our hot water heater and our means of heat for the winter. Without it, it is impossible to heat the house/office complex. I learned last month that our water heater had to be replaced and when I asked the total cost I found that it would be around $1,500.00 for heater and installation. With August already here I know that winter is just around the corner. I have little time and all our extra funds have been consumed by renovation costs that were unexpected. So to get this heater installed, I’m asking for your help. Could you be in prayer for us concerning this matter? It is a great need! If you feel God leading you to help in this area of giving just send all donations to CMO and Pastor Gene will get in touch with me as soon as possible. Our Thanks:Thank you for your continued support both prayerfully and financially we truly appreciate all you do to help us in our ministry effects. Many of you have written to us with encouraging emails. We thank you for your uplifting words and for encouraging us to press forward in the ministry of Jesus. Yours in Christ, Freddy and Rita
